[DeTomaso] Pantera GT5S *seventeen* inch wheels

As a long time wide body car owner, here's what I do:
Keep my eye open for tires for sale. When they come up at a reasonable price, buy a couple of sets. (In 2001, the Tire Rack had Yokohama 345/35/15 for sale for $107 per tire. I bought 8, knowing that some day I'd need them. In the end, they were getting old faster than I could wear them out, so I sold them on at price to other owners a few years ago)
If you don't have the luxury of shopping around, I think that tires are out there, but the price may hurt. If you always keep a few tires in your garage, then the lead time is irrelevant and you can pick and choose and buy tires when the prices are reasonable.
I haven't been without spare tires in the last 15 years or so... if someday I am stuck, I'll decide what to do. But so far so good

Dear Lashdeep,
The main issue is tire availability.
I assume that you have a GT5S.
Today, if you needed a full set of fresh fifteen inch
tires for the original wheels, then 1) could you have them in a week?
In those tire sizes, I expect that speed rating would not be an issue.
2) What would be the market price of the tires?

Chuck, preserving the originals is a great idea and one I've thought
of myself recently.
The Basset sounds like a perfect modern solution and retains some of the
desirable factory look.

Dear Arjun,
The idea is to put the very expensive original
wheels safely up in storage and drive and abuse more expendable
seventeen inch repro wheels.
