If you were holding out hope for a De Tomaso revival prepare to be disappointed as Automobili Turismo Sport (ATS) has reportedly given up their bid for the defunct brand.
Speaking to Autoblog, ATS chief Gianluca Gregis said the company will be leaving Italy to setup shop in the Canary Islands. The move will reportedly bring a number of benefits including tax incentives and easier shipping to global locations.
Unfortunately, the change has caused the company to refocus their efforts and drop necessary projects. As a result, ATS have withdrawn their bid for De Tomaso and sold their Leggera roadster program to an unnamed automaker.

According to a recent report, ATS Autosport has bought the rights to the De Tomaso name.
Details are limited but Autoblog is reporting ATS is preparing to relaunch the brand with an all-new lineup. There's no word on what we can expect but the company told the website an announcement will be made later this month and future De Tomaso models could share platforms with ATS. More specifically, the company hinted a new Pantera could be based on the ATS 2500 GT.
As a refresher, De Tomaso was revived by former Fiat CEO Gianmario Rossignolo who intended to launch a three model lineup that consisted of a sedan, coupe and a crossover. The company eventually introduced the Deauville concept at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show but ran into financial troubles shortly thereafter. The company was put up for sale in 2012 and Rossignolo was taken into custody over allegations that he - along with two others - misused €7.5 ($9.1 / £5.9) million worth of government funds.
