Boyd,
Since having breast cancer 3 years ago, my wife has been involved in support groups and we know several people who have had stage 4 cancer for 2 or 3 years and the medication they receive keeps knocking it down, and other than feeling lousy one day a month when they receive the medication, they live normal lives. It sounds like you are seeing all the right people and doing the right things. There are a lot of options now that didn't exist in the past and depending on what you gave, many of them are effective.
Ken

Dear fellow List participants,
I am very sorry to have to say that I am going into Mt. Sinai Hospital
in NYC on MondayA 10/27/2014
to undergo surgery . They think I have a liver cancer . Either Hepatic
cellular carcinomaA or coleoangelo carcinoma ( Cancer of the bile
duct). They are both bad but The later is actually much worse. I have
been to a local hospital (North Shore which is part of Long Island
Jewish Hillside medical center) which is a good hospital, but I have
also been to NYU Langone,A Sloan Kettering memorial Hospital, and MT
Sinai Hospital. The last three are considered to be among the best
cancer hospitals in the world and Memorial Sloan Kettering is only for
cancer is is considered to be one of the best in the world. I have had
countless diagnostic procedures (cat scans, Sonograms, MRI's and
biopsies) The tests have ranged from inconclusiveA toA conclusive but
not definitive. So on Monday I am undergoing a surgical biopsy where
they will perform the biopsy while I am on the operating table. If the
results show a malignancy the will preform a liver resection. That is
where the remove the section of the liver that contains the tumor and
it has the best chance of completely eradicating the cancer. There is a
significant risk involved but the risk is worth the potential reward. I
just wanted to let everyoneA know how much I have enjoyed my
association with the group and have never met a group with such
substantial proportion of the members were gentlemen and all were ready
,willing, ans when able to assist other members. So in the event IA
disappear from the list you will all know what happened to me. I hopeA
thatA this letter will be nothing more then a humorous footnote in the
history of "The Big list" but if not I wanted everyone to know how much
I enjoyed and appreciated my associationA with them.A And as has been
said many times before "Drive like there is no tomorrow for there may
not be.
Sincerely , with Love and deepest affection,
Hugh Boyd Casey
