Julian,

Be very careful when you bring the vehicle into Canada. I was charged 6.1% duty on #4072 even though I tried to argue that the v ehicle is suppose to be duty free. I am now appealing the decision as per recommendations from panterainfopop. Good luck!

Anyone in Canada been through or familiar with the RIV
inspection upon importation of a vehicle? If it makes any
 differene province is Alberta.

The GT5 arrived yesterday and I need to know what level of
detail the inspection station are going to go into for the
inspection e.g. I currently have no windshield wipers or
 handbrake.

 Thanks,
 Julian

Am finally getting ready to pull the headlight buckets to
 put in the cat eye
quads.  I recall a few threads in the past about tricks
 to removing the
headlight buckets by marking them or something to minimize
 hassles aligning
them when you put them back on.  Whachagot?

There is a youtube where they put twin turbos on a Boss 302
 (the new one,
not the Boss from the 70?s).

It had a an electronic waste gate, and I suppose fuel
 mappings for each
 boost level.

They could run at a reasonable 5-6lb boost at roughly 600hp,
 or they could
crank it up to ~20 and hit just south of 1,000hp.

 That?s pretty amazing.

 Mike,

 Simple and easy.

BEFORE unbolting the buckets from the headlight bar
brackets, drill three small holes through the bucket and the
bracket, in a wide triangle pattern.

When putting things back, use three nails/bolts or whatever
to align the three holes, and ....

Voila! Right back where you started.

Pay attention to possible shim washers between the bucket
and the bracket when taking things apart.

Hellcat Charger weighs 4,449 pounds with 707 horsepower.
That calculates to one horsepower for every 6.29 pounds.

Given a Pantera weight of 3,100 pounds, to match the
Hellcat's 6.29 ratio would require only 492 horsepower.

So who is going to be first to go out and spank a Hellcat?

 :-)

I think Lloyd has mentioned about 800 HP being a practical
limit.  I assume you have to ID the weak link, and I'd
guess the real limit would be torque, not HP.  Lloyd
also told me the higher ring and pinion sets are stronger
because the pinion gear is one of the weak links and the
higher gear sets have a larger pinion gear, but I'm not sure
where the other issues are.  Then you have to factor
the tires in, both weight and grip.  If they just go up
in smoke, all that power isn't buying much until you get to
 higher gears and speed.

 Ken

they put twin turbos on a Boss 302 (the
    new
        one,
        not the Boss from the
 70A^1s).
It had a an electronic waste
gate, and I suppose fuel mappings for
        each
        boost level.
        They could run at a
reasonable 5-6lb boost at roughly 600hp, or
    they
        could
crank it up to ~20 and hit
 just south of 1,000hp.
        ThatA^1s pretty amazing.

Very well done! I loved it. Makes me want to increase my
 power to weight ratio.

Need to change the ZF's oil.  Any
recommendations?  I checked the TSB's and
believe all of recommended lubricants names have changed
 (possibly formulas
too).  I think Castrol Hypoy 80W90 (TSB #13) cross
 references to
Castrol/Axle Limited Slip SAE 80W90.  Also has anybody
 tried the Brad Penn
 Limited Slip GL-5 SAE 80W-90?

 All comments are appreciated.

 the proper GL5
spec.   As a wonderful bonus, it's available
in one-gallon jugs, and you can
buy an optional pump which threads onto the
 bottle.   Each pump meters out
exactly one ounce, which is a beautiful
 thing.   Rather than struggling with
long quart bottles, you simply set the jug atop the gearbox,
 insert the end
of the hose into the side, and pump merrily
 away.   You'll need 7 1/2 US
pints, which is damn near a gallon.

See attached photo....I got mine at the local NAPA auto
 parts store, along
with the pump.   Usually my store has it in
stock; last time they only had
pint bottles so I had to order it, and it arrived the next
 day.

I saved this post from Les Gray. As far as I am concerned it
ends the discussion.  He is referring to Red Line
75w-90 NS Gear Oil. The same conclusions were reached by the
Ferrari community, whose cars also run European transaxles.

Subject: ZF oil -- the right choice

Here is a recent postfrom Les Gray which basically answers
 the question forever:

The Red Line oil NSdesignation means that in this particular
 oil there is NO
additive added to reduce the clutch chatter in most limited
 slip differentials.
Normally this additive is a good thing and almost mandatory
 in cars like the
Corvette which has a fairly high degree of limited slip lock
 up.
Our cars have a two issues with
 these extra slipperyadditives. Number
one is our diff uses a rather low limited slip lock up so
 this extra slip
actually decreases what little lock up we have. Number two
 is this additivewill
inhibit our synchro rings ability to do its job and in
 extreme cases will burn
up the synchro rings and the towers on the gears costing big
 bucks.
I've rebuilt ZF's since the late 1970's and
 have replaceddozens of synchro
rings & gear sets due to the use of these additives.
As Jack DeRyke says "your mileage may vary" !!!!

Subject: [DeTomaso] ZF Gear Oil Recommendations

Need to change the ZF's oil.  Any
 recommendations?  I checked the TSB's
and believe all of recommended lubricants
 names have changed (possibly
formulas too).  I think Castrol Hypoy
 80W90 (TSB #13) cross references
    to Castrol/Axle Limited Slip SAE
80W90.  Also has anybody tried the
Brad Penn Limited Slip GL-5 SAE 80W-90?

    All comments are appreciated.

Very strange. ZF here in Germany says it is not allowed to
 use GL5
spec's in the transaxle. The GL5 is an additiv for the
 limited slip
differenzial and should NOT be used in any manual gearbox,
 because the
 additive lubes the syncros.

 Just my little knowledge.
