[DeTomaso] Have you checked your ZF juice lately?

Ted Mitchell of Vader Racing actually built such a system some years ago and brought it to a Las Vegas Fun Rally for show-&-tell. Ted extended the left side shifter box outboard 3" to clear a 10-1/2" OD vented left rotor inboard mounted. It could also be done running a std 11.1" OD (vented) right rotor, balancing the two different OD rear rotors via a second proportioning valve between them. Ted mentions a reduction of 50 lbs in unsprung wt. On the street, air ducting to the inboard rotors likely would not be necessary. The mod is reversible- see <www.tmitch.com>

The very last image of the inboard mounted Willwood brakes. I know the
issue has been debated in the past, and it's an interesting concept, but a
number of questions come immediately to mind: wouldn't that interfere with
the shift linkage ? Wouldn't there be a significant risk of heat exchange
from the brakes to the ZF? How would you cool those brakes inside the
engine bay? Seems a much greater risk there than the marginal benefit of
reducing unsprung weight.

Thanks Chuck, some great shots there.

There are "Nooks 'n Crannys" (Like a good English muffin) in the ZF where
oil may not quickly drain from, that could account for 1/2 liter.

How long did you let it drain?

Lots of ZF photos here:

http://www.provamo.com/Members/TechInfo/ZF_Main.asp

And just before the photos of the ZF with the clear case is one specific
photo showing some of the internal baffling.
(The shown piece is actually on top in the Pantera orientation, so has no
effect on drainage.)

Good reminder on ZF maintenance!

Chuck

No, I'm not saying that. Maybe I should be more clear.

I drained the ZF.
I put the plug back in.
I filled the ZF with new oil
I poured the old oil in the new oil bottles, and found that I only filled
2,5 bottles, indicating that I only had 2,5 liters of oil in there before
