>>>This is another car.

It is apparently a Euro car although its early history is not known. It
was a pale yellow when PI Motorsports sold it to a fellow on the east coast,
a collector who apparently had a small museum. He had it for 10-15 years
and put barely 200 miles on it, and then last year it came back to PIM for a
restoration for sale. They stripped it down to bare metal, and under the
yellow they found red, then the green--under the dash confirmed the green was
the original color.

The car was amazingly solid, with virtually no rust (Mangustas can rust
ferociously). They cut out a few small sections of the rocker panels and
repaired them, then painted it in the original color. They rebuilt the engine
and gearbox, but didn't do a FULL restoration; they didn't touch the
suspension or other systems.

The car was then sold to an overseas buyer a few months ago, apparently as
an investment. He is an Englishman who has property in England (and that's
where the car went) although he lives in Hong Kong. The car was in
England until just a week before the auction (that's where Johnny went to look at
it).

This proved to be a very sound investment for him, as he made a VERY
healthy profit on the deal. I don't know who the new owners is though, but if he
wants to drive this car, he will have to attend to the suspension, fix the
engine, and a few other minor things.

As ever, the auctioneers were a bit liberal with the truth in describing
this car. For example, they were proud to say it had its original tool kit.
What they failed to mention was that most of the original TOOLS weren't in
it!

Mike

P.S. It's worth mentioning that Jerry Sackett of PI Motorsports was VERY
helpful and forthcoming with information about this car. When a potential
buyer approached me and asked for information, I was able to put him in
touch with Johnny who inspected the car for him, and when I asked Jerry for
information, he sent me dozens and dozens of photos showing the car from all
angles, and all aspects of the work that they performed, and he described it
fully and accurately. He spent a lot of time on a project that would net him
no financial reward, and I appreciate that very much!
