Thank you--all I have to do now is find a place around here who carries it!

You want Redline 75W-90NS (note the NS) and you'll need to buy 4 quarts because it takes over 3, as Charlie has just confirmed

I'm going to have my mechanic drain and refill my zf before I leave to
drive to the fun rally; I have some amsoil redline rt 90, I think that
is what was recommended by the zf specialist I used to have it
safety-wired. How much will I need to fill the zf once it is fully
   drained?
   Thanks for your help.

When was the last time you checked the level of the oil in your ZF?

I check my engine oil regularly, and my coolant level. But I have to
   admit
that I don't check the level of the oil in my ZF, well, at all between
   changes.

I'm doing spring maintenance, as next weekend there is a Supercar event
   4
hours away that I'll be attending, and in less than 2 months there's a
week-long car tour before Le Mans Classic, a long ways from home.

To be honest, I don't remember when I last changed the oil in my
   gearbox,
but I know it was not last year. Possibly not the previous year either.
   Let's just say it's been a while.

Anyway, I bought 3 liters of oil. I filled the gearbox with the 3
   liters and
it hasn't yet begun to dribble out the hole, indicating that it isn't
   full
yet. Wondering how much would be left over in the oil drain pan, I went
   to
fill up the three empty liter containers, but the third container only
   took
about half - indicating that I've been driving around with 2,5 liters
   in the
   ZF for who-knows-how-long.

With all the horror stories about how expensive ZF repairs are, this is
pretty silly on my part. Anyone else that hasn't checked their oil
   level and
is driving around fat, dumb, and happy while quietly doing ungood
   things to
   their 'box?

   Something to think about...
