[DeTomaso] Fw: Cleveland engine question

Boyd,

I like to pull all the plugs out. Look at them for damage, oil or water. It
helps to know what cylinder is the problem. Set your static timing to TDC
and check the rotor to see if it is pointing at the #1 wire on the cap. If
it is ok do a compression / leak down test next. Pop the valve covers off to
have a peek is always good idea.

I wish you good luck

Larry - Cleveland

The loud boom is classic distributor pin shear or gear shattering (that's
fun to pick the pieces out). Get the engine to TDC and pull the
distributor cap off. It should be pointing almost to #1 unless 180
degrees out so if that's the case turn the motor again.

This has happened to me 6 times with Clevelands and Windsors. Each time it
was under power, each time there was a large BOOM and then no power. Check
that first. Then check for spark, then check for fuel, then check for
compression... then check for holes :)
