You need to use a balancer installation tool.   It comes with a large, 
hardened stud.   Thread it into the snout of the crank until it bottoms out.   
Place the damper in position, then slide a big washer over the stud, then a 
nut, then tighten the nut.   The nut will pull the damper into position, 
without the stress that the threads would see if you were turning the crank bolt 
to achieve the same thing.

You can rent a tool to install it at any good auto parts store, which is 
really the best way to achieve it.   Here is the one that Autozone rents:
