Another noise generator can be a slipped outer ring on the damper.

My P-car started making grinding noises shortly after I bought it and it turned out to be the outer damper ring that had slipped backwards until it hit the front lip of the oil pan. The noise changed when pushing the clutch, but it should become less pronounced with the clutch depressed as that pushes the crank forward.
