Peter,
The issue was not all 3-piece wheels. It was specifically the Hall 3-piece wheels. The poor construction was certainly not planned by Hall. The manufacturer created the issue.

As I mentioned before, my Etoile/Gotti three piece 15" wheels have been on my car since 1985.
No problems.
In fact, I'm using them for the race car now....
As with all things, if it's a quality well engineered and built product, there should be no problem.
I am now using Kinesis wheels and they are bolt together 3 piece wheels.
Bob Benson uses the same ones. No problems that I know of...
