There are 'some people' out there who continue to insist that the
Amerisport Panteras are not 'real' Panteras, and instead are some sort of glorified
kit cars. Referring to them by their Amerisport VIN instead of their De
Tomaso VIN is an insult, one which perpetuates that myth and robs them of their
well-deserved true identity as De Tomaso cars.

All Amerisport cars were made in Italy by De Tomaso and equipped with De
Tomaso VINS; they were 'completed' here by Kirk, by the installation of the
drivetrain and emissions gear, and technically, that meant they were
considered to be manufactured here. Due to stupid bureaucracy in the USA, the
government refused to acknowledge the De Tomaso VINS the cars wore (our laws had
changed and required more characters than had been used previously), and so
the DOT made up rather arbitrary new ones for Amerisport to use, which
unfortunately have no relationship to the De Tomaso VIN.

That doesn't change the true identity of an Amerisport-sourced car, or make
it any less of a genuine De Tomaso Pantera, despite what some may suggest.
