[DeTomaso] Nice 73 selling at $63K

Agreed.
This car might sell for $63,000. I doubt it, but you never know. The
values have risen in the past few years. But from what I can see in the
pictures, $63K sounds a bit high even with the fuel injection, and
probably regular maintenance by Dennis Q. Maybe he priced it a little bit
high for price negotiation. $58K sounds about right assuming no surprises
on inspection, and assuming you are happy with the FI install.

It is quite common for people to establish their ideas of "fair market
value" based solely on someones asking price on sites like E-bay. If you
ever watch Pawn Stars, you will see people constantly asking what appears to
be hyper inflated prices for the items they are attempting to sell. When
they are asked for the basis of their price they inevitably say" I saw one
onE-Bay "selling " for that amount! The Pawn people are quick to point out
that the asking price is just that an "Asking" price. Until something has
actually sold the asking price is little more then a guess or more likely
"Wishful Thinking". After thirty years in the retail automobile business I
can tell you that we used a plethora of sources to come up with an
"estimated" value of a trade in. I found that the best and safest approach
to use were the most current auction reports from the geographical area you
were planning on reselling the car in. With rare or unusual cars even an
auction report was of limited use due to the in frequency of sales of
particular models. For purposes of statistical analysis a sample size of
one is practically useless. In the case of a Pantera the best source of
information is the combined knowledge of our owner base. There are
particular nuances that only a Pantera owner would know of or appreciate.
There is also the "known unknowns" factor . Which in a nutshell is if you
are selling your Pantera at auction , ( a real auction , not E-bay) you
never know what someone or two people fighting over a car, will do.
Boyd
P.S. If you haven't seen this it's worth watching. Very interesting and a
little scary.
