[DeTomaso] Long Time Coming; Fresh Paint

Here's another shot of the rear flares showing how well GTS flares blend
into the original body lines. Also a picture of the rear deck lid and doors
all prepped. If you look closely, the guys at Perfect Bodies Autobody
fabricated a short return wall on the side rear of the deck lid so that a
rubber bumper can be placed between the deck lid and the quarter. This
reduces impact damage due to body twist. Not my invention, but stolen from
somebody else on this ring...thanks.
A couple of notes for those interested...after stripping, I was able to see
the factory weld seam along the front fenders that was a topic of a string
not too long ago. Also, I had always known my car was hit in the rear and
repaired long ago. I was convinced it was hit on the left quarter, but it
turned out to be the right. The entire quarter skin had been replaced. The
braze joints were ground out and re-welded this time.

Here's a shot of some custom work being done. Rear GTS flares added. These
are all metal GTS flares. Perfect Autobody cut the stock quarter,
lapp-jointed in the metal flares and welded inside and outside. Now the
flare appears to be just part of stock quarter. Not too much flare; not too
little. Very structurally sound.

Another installment. Here is a shot of some rust abatement in process. The
car was relatively clean, but it's a rare Pantera that doesn't have some
rust hidden behind the lower quarters and rockers. The only way to go is
the right way...thanks to the skilled technicians at Perfect Body Autobody
(For those that might be on the fence for same, they can be reached at 631
244 7777.) It may seem like a shameless plug, but I wouldn't bring my
Pantera to anyone else in the NY/NJ area. Joe has rejuvenated a number of
Panteras and knows what they need and how to do it.

When I bought my bone-stock, aging Pantera 19 years ago, the first thing I
said was "it needs fresh paint." I set out to refresh it mechanically
before tackling the paint. So, 19 years later I've finally gotten there
(now there's more stock parts in my shed than on the car.) The car is
currently at Perfect Bodies Autobody in Bohemia, Long Island NY. Fellow
Jersey Panteras member Joe DiVillio has stripped it bare, eradicated the
relatively minor rust demons, welding in metal GTS flares and replacing
rotted rockers with custom fabricated replacements. I'll be posting
periodic photos of the procedures.
