[DeTomaso] Stack injection units

Kirby,

Holley has a 5.7” LCD touchpad that’s designed to be permanently attached to their ECU’s, so if you want to adjust your calibration while sitting at a stoplight, you just whip it out and tune away! It’s about the same size as one of the bigger Garmin’s. It’s not free though !

Kirby,

I believe most of the ECU’s on the market have had USB connectivity for some time. I hear you re: serial port adapters. I’ve been there too : - (

Well, I'm obviously back in the dark ages. Even though I've had the ECU for 'only' 7 years....

Time flies when you're having fun and spending money.

I’m pretty sure the performance of the short TB’s + injector blocks is about the same as tall TB’s because the critical distance, from throttle plate to intake valve, is about the same.

Fair enough. The 'short' system that PPC used to sell didn't perform as well as the tall one according to Quella.

Even USB ports are old school. New ECU’s will likely connect wirelessly via Bluetooth and you’ll download an App to your iPad for tuning! Autotrend EFI has wireless modems they send to their clients who are having trouble with tuning. That way, Autotrend can play with the calibration remotely, while the customer’s driving the car around.

All I can say to that is wow... I have told 'carburetor guys' who tell me EFI is too complicated, hey... can you adjust your idle jets while sitting at the stoplight?

Remotely tuning while driving around is certainly the optimum. Besides, I wouldn't get car sick while staring at a screen while my son is driving!

Thanks for the feedback.

David,

Now THAT is very purty!

It'd be really nice to be able to try all the different ECU's and see which one is 'best'...

Trouble is, not only do you have the cost of purchase, but you have to re-wire each time, too.

Technology marches on. Electromotive now has, believe it or not, USB connectivity!

Mine are all DB9 serial plugs which require an adapter and not all adapters are equal.

Ask me how I know...

Thanks for the picture. That's definitely cool.

Question: How's performance compared to the taller throttle bodies?

Just curious....

   Dan,

I have one of Kelly's intake manifolds on a 9.5" Fontana block with
   C302B heads. I'm also using IPSCO's 54mm low profile throttle bodies;
however, in an effort to mount the injectors in a better position, we
filled the injector bosses in the manifold and installed a set of
IPSCO's injector blocks, with the injectors and fuel rails now mounted
in the middle of the manifold. With low profile stacks and low profile
air cleaners, it all fits below the deck lid ... barely.

I had an Accel DFI, 4bbl EFI system, tuned and set-up by Dennis
Quella's Accel guru, Dave Ehrlich at Autotrend EFI in Northern
California. It ran great but I couldn't resist the temptation to go IR.
In fact, it's my old 4bbl manifold that Kelly's been using to de-bug
his EFI. Dave recently convinced me to switch to Holley's new Dominator
ECU as it's loaded with the newest technology and tons of features that
are perfect for a Pantera EFI system. It has dual O2 sensor inputs and
drivers for individual coil-on-plug setups, all built-in. In fact,
Autotrend EFI was so impressed by the Holley ECU's, they are now
   officially a Holley EFI dealer.

The feature of Electromotive's TEC ECU's that makes them ideal for IR
systems, is the ability to blend Speed Density and Alpha-N fueling
strategies. The new Holley Dominator has this feature as well.
