I have jacked up my car during winter season almost every year since I
bought it in 1996. Once off the ground I leave it jacked up until late
April when I start driving it again. I support it at four points, the
same that I would use if lifting it on a two post lift. This has caused
no noticable drawbacks. I support the car under the engine mounts and
approximately below the front door hinges (the S-shaped channel under
floor). Of course the chassis will flex to some extent but if it was
permanent my car would look like a banana by now. It doesn't. ;-) What
doesn't harm the car immediately will not harm it over time.

In an attempt to get 2 DeTomasos into a 1 car garage, I'm considering a
column lift that lifts the Pantera, the type of lift that lifts with 4
arms on the chassis between the wheels at 4 points. Now if the Pantera
hangs in the air for several months, with no weight on the wheels, will
I hurt it? Will chassis flex? Will shocks dislike being stretched all
the time? Springs? Windows crack? Any experience? When I have the
Pantera up on my current scissor lift on the four points, doors need a
little more effort to close...
A proper drive-on lift is a lot more expensive, and will require
significant modifications of the garage.
