[DeTomaso] Front Fender construction

According to the "seasoned restoration expert" working on my car, the welded
seam we're witnessing is a MACHINE welded seam, not a hand welded seam. If
he's right, the fender supplier performed the weld and delivered it whole to
DeTomaso. So naturally the parts books will show a complete fender.

Both the orange Ford and black Detomaso parts manuals show the front fenders
as one stamped unit (top and sides). When I took my car down to bare metal
it did not have that welded seam.

Why would DeTomaso do that?
Wouldn't it be cheaper to die stamp the entire fender?
I guess, since everything is welded together anyway, it's not that much of
a stretch to do a 2-part stamping for the fenders.
