Here is part of the notes I have from my 9-5-2010 phone call to SSCC Eric:

To xx

Tire news, I just got off the phone with Eric:

1) He said no to H rated rear and V rated front. And no to H rated on a Pantera.

2) He said no to (225/50x15 Toyo Proxes 4) 50 series front and ( 225/60x16 ToyoProxes TPT  ) 60 series rear.
3) He said yes to Campy front, Ford style steel in rear.
4) He said yes to Toyo Proxes 4 front and Toyo Proxes 4 rear to match above wheels.
5) That means 225/50x15 front and 245/50x16 rear.

FWIW -- SSCC will not allow a mis-match of compound nor tire description to be run.

>Chris,
>You didn’t mention “which” Toyo Proxes you have (R-888, RA-1, T1R, 4, etc.) but it’s likely a P-Zero would be a complete mis-match from a rubber compound/tire construction standpoint.
>As a general rule-of-thumb, you shouldn’t run different makes of tires front and rear. It can create huge handling balance issues. In fact, you also shouldn’t mix tires of the same brand, even if they are of the same rubber compound and load/speed rating. I wanted to mix Michelin PS2 run-flats with regular PS2’s. Both tires had identical specs and even an identical tread pattern. The only way you could tell them apart was one had “ZP” on the sidewall. Both the Tire Rack and Michelin told me not to mix them. They said, if you’re just “putting around” you’ll never have a problem but if you start to drive hard; really hard, the imbalance created by running different tires can be dangerous. Perhaps they’re just covering their asses, in the legal sense, but is it worth the risk just to save a few hundred dollars?
>As far as tire age is concerned, some experts attribute the Paul Walker fatality to the fact the Carrera GT he was riding in still had the original tires, which were approximately nine years old at the time of the crash.
