[DeTomaso] Tire advice

That's about the price I heard lately for Yokos. As Bjoern said in the next
e-mail, I knew that we'd never see the $107 again, which is why I bought so
many. The Swedish club bought a bunch when Yokohama made a match of 1000,
and they were being sold for roughly $750 from the distributor. I'm just
happy that they are available so that I can keep my stock 15" Campys. 

I know people running TBs, and they work well but on a long trip, he was
nervous about whether he would make it home before the tread wore out. He
made it home no problems, but there is always the doubt I suppose.

Charles, the last set of 345 Yokos I bought were $700 each a few years ago.

They do pop up from time to time on Ebay.

*If* one can be assured of proper storage, and then confirm condition, they
could be safe and usable even a few years old.

Remember that we now also have the tires below in addition to the other 15"
options.

345-35-15 are $750 a pop. Ouch. 

Anecdote  - Tire Rack had a clearance sale of Yokos in this flavor around
2002  - $107 per tire. I bought 8, and Mike Drew airfreighted them to me in
Spain. I knew we'd never see a Price like that again. 

I couldn't use them all up before the expriration date so I ended up selling
several of them at cost to other GT5-S owners in Europe. Ah, $107 was such a
nice Price!

I know I'll get different opinions on this question, so I've decided I will
add up the answers I get within in the first 24 hours, and go with the
majority...!

It turns out I need new, front tires.  I don't race my car, but I drive it a
lot (the current Toyo Proxes were new in 2008), and sometimes, on a long
trip, I might hypothetically drive at a hypothetically high speed for a
time.

Here are my two choices--tell me what you think is the best.

1) The Les Schwab company discontinued the Proxes 225 50 15 which I have
now, but they still have 7 left in the Country.  They are probably 4 or 5
years old, but are new, and have been stored inside in a cool, dry area.
They will match the Toyos on the rear of the car and cost less than $400 for
both including mounting and tax.  They are only rated to 149 mph.

2) Pirelli P-0 tires are also available in the correct size.  They are rated
to 200 mph, will be newly-produced, but won't match what I have on the back,
and will cost over $800.00.  

Which should I buy, Toyo or Pirelli?
