[DeTomaso] Tire advice

The first question is why are you wearing out fronts before rears, assuming that by proposing to buy only fronts you have significant tread left on the rears? An alignment is probably in order before you do anything or you'll be throwing good money after bad.
 
Then a) your current Toyos are already 6 years old, so irrespective you should be replacing all 4 tires b) why replace them with old tires, there are real world stories of NOS tires just delaminating and falling apart. 
 
When it comes to anything considered a critical safety element, do it right........ buy 4 Pirelli's!

The rears are in pretty good shape, so that puts one vote for the Toyos.
When all four tires wear out next time, my sons will be out of college, so I'll just buy a whole set of the Pirelli P-zeros.  They are rated to almost 200 mph.

Are you planning to upgrade to 17", if you  continue to drive as you hypothetically do, that's going to be your only option unless somebody (Coker) reissues a Z rated 15" series.

If my rears where newish I would go Pzero, if my rears were 60% or less, the Toyos.

It turns out I need new, front tires.  I don't race my car, but I drive it a lot (the current Toyo Proxes were new in 2008), and sometimes, on a long trip, I might hypothetically drive at a hypothetically high speed for a time.

1) The Les Schwab company discontinued the Proxes 225 50 15 which I have now, but they still have 7 left in the Country.  They are probably 4 or 5 years old, but are new, and have been stored inside in a cool, dry area.  They will match the Toyos on the rear of the car and cost less than $400 for both including mounting and tax.  They are only rated to 149 mph.




2) Pirelli P-0 tires are also available in the correct size.  They are rated to 200 mph, will be newly-produced, but won't match what I have on the back, and will cost over $800.00.



Which should I buy, Toyo or Pirelli?
