[DeTomaso] NPC - buying a Ferrari

I was looking at Porsche 996 and 997 recently (1999-2008 911). Problem is, they have this thing called an Intermediate Shaft Bearing. It is a roller bearing, goes out without warning, at any random time it feels like it, and ruins the engine by filling the oiling system with shards of metal. New engine = $20K.

The recommendation is to change it every 50,000 miles ($2K-- have to pull the tranny) but no one will guarantee it will last that long.

Russian Roulette, anyone?

Jim

Hilarious!

Buying an exotic can be difficult.

Then again, being a journalist and having to go to the dealership to have oil changed is probably even more difficult!
