Dear Peter,
I don't know the exact answer to your question. I have
done a few engines and I have used VHT engine paint on the iron heads.
I have been disappointed that it cooks off of the exhaust ports over
time.
I am building another engine. I have looked into engine
paints again. There are some engine paints capable of withstanding
*very* high temps. Unfortunately, the color choice is limited to black
or gray, if I recall correctly. I checked with a friend in the powder
paint business. He tells me that there is not any powder paint that
will endure the heat of the exhaust ports. I am resigned to paint the
engine and let the exhaust ports get fried over time. Sigh. It is not
nice and tidy.
