As some have heard, Judy McCartney was taken away by ambulence from the
TPOC Christmas Party last weekend, with a cerebral anurism (a stroke).
She survived and is recovering in the hospital, with few if any
physical signs of the attack. Given her age and past medical history,
this is one tough woman!
Multiple past-president Les Gray is recovering from an exceptionally
painful total knee replacement. He is at home now.
Great Lakes Panteras' Gerry Romack wrecked a rented bicycle on a
30-mile downhill run from the crater rim on Maui, with major shoulder
injuries. He elected to wait until returning to the Chicago area to
have surgrery to repair all the broken bones. The surgery went well on
Monday, but after being released from the hospital and on the way home,
he had severe pain in chest & neck, so an emergency ambulence hauled
him right back to the hospital, arriving just as he went into cardiac
arrest!
Seems a couple of old stents from previous problems had plugged up,
causing the heart attack. Surgeons were able to clear things out and
correct the new problems. He came out of the anesthetic at noon today,
and has already made two phone calls- one to me asking that I post
something to POCA fans. Gerry says to 'guard your POCA password'- he's
been the default person to straighten out such things since Mark
McWhinney and Asa Jay Lawton are more difficult to reach- both are
still working for a living.
Prayers are encouraged for all the above. POCA will be immeasurably
poorer if we lose any of these dedicated Club members. Thanks-
J DeRyke
