Curt,

People will call me a girlyman, but I'm running 215/45-17 front and 285/40-17 rear.

Do you really want heavier steering?
Do you already have chassis stiffening braces? Even if you do, my understanding is that if you really stress the car with max width tires you will see cracks in the sheet metal where the body is twisting in response to stresses it was not designed for.

285 rears look plenty "bitchin'" to my eye. :)

   Curt,

245/40-17 front, 335/30-18 rear. If you can find a 235/40-17 for the
front, even better because it's a bit shorter.

The lower the UTQG number, the softer the rubber compound and the
quicker it will wear. For a Pantera, the highest UTQG that's suitable
is about 300 (IMO). FYI, Porsche 911 OEM tires have a UTQG of 220.
