[DeTomaso] 17-inch wheel back spacing

Off the subject a little bit - could we add a spacer to the rear 8" wheel, 
to fill the wheel well (track) and sit like a 10" wheel?
if so what size spacer? (I suppose it would have to be center centric 62mm).

You can't add any extra width to the outside, relative to a 15x10 wheel.
All additional width needs to go to the inside, moving the center of the
contact patch inward somewhat (since you would also be running a wider 
tire).

So far only Julian has provided an *actual* answer, rather than a
theoretical/guestimate one.   Can anybody else offer up *actual* backspace
measurements from 17x8 and 17x11 wheels?
