[DeTomaso] What Water Temp sender do I need? (Was water temp gage)

Ok, so as another diagnostic try, I put a new temp sender in, even though
the old one seemed to be producing the correct ohms. Well, now the gage
works, but it pegs before the thermostat starts sending water to the
radiator. When I was running the car before, water flow seemed to be
normal, the fans would come on, just no gage reading. Now the gage hits 230
indicated before I can feel hot water at the rad.

Wondering if I bought the wrong sender, and it's sending the wrong signal to
the gage. I asked NAPA for a temp sender for a '72 Mustang 351 Cleveland,
they gave me part number TS6153. After the first observation of this, I let
the car cool enough to pop the cap on the pressure bottle, and raised the
back of the car to be sure there were no air bubbles in the system from what
little coolant came out when I swapped the sender, though I realize it was
draining from right around the thermostat. It just seems a little Murphy
that my thermo might have quit just as I finally see a reading on the gage.
I ran it again with the butt in the air, same gage reading. Will let it
cool and check once more if there was a bubble and I need to add coolant,
but . .. . ?

Your thoughts?
