Check the pulley widths. A narrow belt will work on a wide pulley but as you may have found, a wide belt will not work on a narrow pulley for very long. Auto part-store clerks should be licensed; some literally do not know jack-s. Good luck, Larry- J Deryke

Subject: [DeTomaso] fan belt sizing question

   All,
Doing some pre-Monterey work and noticed for the first time the Water
pump and A/C compressor belts have different top widths,
one being 10mm and the other 12mm. The 12mm serves the A/C compressor.
Both are 36 degree angle belts, so I assume this means they both
correctly mate with the pulley angles.
   But why the different widths?
Does the wider belt, which also equates to taller, thus more fully
contact the pulley sides, and increase grip abilities?
   Or ........??
Larry - now I know why the A/C stopped working after San Diego ......
