Funny, to me it looks an awful lot like the bracket that holds the muffler bearings in place...

It's a billet framenstrand , ( pronounced framm in strand an item often sold to consumers of auto repairs that are unfamiliar with automotive parts and technology. Although often mentioned in estimates this is the first one ever photographed in captivity. It is being held in protective custody as a material witness in numerous stats class action suits against disreputable repair shops.
