Yes - but I've never seen the #6 size offered by the "Help" packages, only
#8 and larger.

Are these little pieces not offered in those blister packages labelled
"Help" found at most chain auto parts stores?

Doug,
This was a very common speed nut used to hold on 60's auto trim. I would
gently tap the top to bend in the tab to fit smaller screws or trim
posts.
As long as it fits on the screw shaft it will bend its self to be the
right
thread. They are not all that sophisticated.
If you cannot find any let me know. I gig in a bar across the street for
a
shop that repairs old music gear and will pick up some for you.

It's not a dumb question and no I hadn't though of contacting a music
store
or Gibson since the amp is so old - but it's probably worth at try.
I also tried an 8-32 Pal nut I had with a #8 sheet metal screw (which
has 14
threads/inch) and it works fine. So its a good bet that the 6-32 Pal
nuts I
have coming from McMaster-Carr will fit the #6 sheet metal stud (20
threads/inch) in the Gibson amp.

Dumb question...have you tried any of the local Music stores? If your
not
in a hurry contact Gibson, but I'm sure you've thought of that already?

Anyone run across a supplier for this type of speed nut (see attached
pic).
I need it to fit a #6 sheet metal screw with the most common type "AB"
thread/point which I believe is 20 threads per inch.
I've also seen these called "Pal" nuts but the Pal type may only apply
to
a
machine thread which in this case would be 6-32.
Which brings up another question - anyone seen a size chart for sheet
metal
screw thread pitches?
BTW: I need this to restore a vintage Gibson guitar amp for my son
Steve.
