[DeTomaso] what should I have done while the car's in the shop?

Well if it sounds good (meaning metallic sounds, not exhaust),
  I'd just add a compression test and ask them to cut up the oil filter
to see if anything is shedding metal.

(because the opposite slope is really greasy and you like that car as it 
is now)
