[DeTomaso] what should I have done while the car's in the shop?

I know. :-)
I just want to do what makes total sense while the guy is working under there.

What about a rotary AC compressor?

I usually only drive the car in the morning or evening when it's not hot and it's a pain to top up the 134 in that car, so I'm not sure it's worth it to me.

Assuming your engine is still as I remember it--basically stock, running well, but 40+ years old.

You just have a starter problem right now. But while you're at it, you want to do the timing chain. Wilkinson is exactly right--it makes sense to do the water pump at the same time. But then there's the cam, and distributor, and it really should have a valve job, and the compression is probably low so it could use rings, and of course you'd do bearings, but while you're there, why not just do the whole damn thing?

Slippery slope, in other words. :>)
