Modern starters incorporate the solenoid onto the starter itself.   Some 
people will keep the stock Ford solenoid on the firewall and just use it as a 
trigger to actuate the solenoid on the aftermarket starter.

If you have a stock Ford starter, that big bump is...a big bump.   I 
honestly don't know what it is.   But it ain't the solenoid.
