[DeTomaso] Happy for 50 miles or so then not

This is classic behavior for an electrical problem -- as the wires expand from the heat they lose contact.

A coil will do this too-- be fine when cold then misfire when hot.

What kind of ignition system do you have? If you have a coil you might just replace it to see if the problem goes away because they are not expensive

Do you have electronic ignition? That happened on my Chevy Sprint, The distributor module was going bad and it only took 50 miles at first but my intervals were shorter and shorter. I could let it just cool all the way down and make it home. It could well be just a bad ground or connector or even a wire.

Would appreciate some thoughts.

When I first start my car and drive it runs great for 50 or 60 miles. At 3000 RPM cruising the air/fuel ratio is high 13 to 14. The vacuum is 18 to 20 and the car runs smooth.

After about 60 miles the air/fuel ratio drops to low 10, the vacuum drops to 13 and the car vibrates and runs rough. It appears to be missing and I suspect the ignition system.

What is confusing is that if I stop for lunch or even after one night the problem continues. But if the car sits for a week or so it goes back to running fine . The problem never occurs unless I drive 60 miles or so.

Thanks for your thoughts

Rob
