Mike,
This is very simple. Here is what is currently on ebay:
$39,500 or best offer
$75,000 or best offer
$37,600 with 1 hour left
$44,100 with 2 days left
$49,000 or best offer
$89,000 with zero bids
$49,000 or best offer
$35,200 (the bring-a-trailer car that had a note "this could fetch up to
$40K")
$52,100 with 4 days left
This does not say, "Hey Panteras are worth $65K - $75K!"
It says that you can still find Panteras in good condition in the $40K -
$50K range.
You see Panteras from all around the world, and you remember the highs.
That's fine, but you are trying to make the exceptions the norm.
When I do a quick scan of ebay and I see good average Panteras in the $40K -
$50K range, I don't buy that they are worh $65K - $75K. If I did, I'd buy
every one as investments.
BTW, I believe the $75K Pantera is worth high $60's and might bring $70's.
And I think the $89K Pantera will no-sale.

>>>Will, I don't know where you have been for the last year.
A PCNC member bought a very nice, but not spectacular, blue '72 Pre-L in
Monterey last year at auction. He paid $66K plus 10% buyer's premium.
The green car went to Europe for $65K.
A red L-model sold for $125K a few months ago (admittedly with under 1000
original miles and perfect in every way).
There's a nice repainted L-model for sale here asking $82.5K, which, when it
sells, will probably get about $70K.
And there are many, many more examples in the last year. All you have to
do is look for them.
Face the fact--really nice, original Panteras are getting really good money
these days. Cars like mine, that have $75K invested in them or so, are
only worth $50K perhaps. But a car that has been well cared-for and has
had little or nothing invested in it will get $65-75K easily.
And the days of the five-figure GT5-S are gone--at least for now, perhaps
forever.
Mike
