Corey,

Try just using one nut on the inside of the cover.  That's how my dash 1 was done ("from the factory").  
If that pushes the switch too far in, use thin washers on the outside of the cover to shim the switch as needed.
Thin AN (aircraft) washers are available from sources such as Aircraft Spruce.  Metric sizes are not available, but 3/8" should be close.
It's more difficult to adjust the switch, but once it's set, you should never have to readjust it.
