Steve, oil 'leaks' -really, excess oil USEAGE- often comes from too-thin
cylinder walls for rings to seal under high compression. For $75-100, you can
get a sonic check done on the squeeky-clean block, and this will tell you if
its time for a new block or whether the old one can be safely reused for a
hi- po build. Generally, wall thicknesses below 0.090" are iffy for lots of
power but may be OK for an around-town engine.

If wall thicknesses are acceptible and not much taper is found
top-to-bottom, you can hone the cylinders straight for no more than 0.004" of clearance
and use new 030"-over forged pistons with new rings. This salvages the block
for another round, as forged pistons will grow more with heat than cast (or
hypereutectics). I'm still running on a 351-C built this way in 1992. Good
luck- J Deryke
