[DeTomaso] NPC - Did Datsun 240Z's always sound this good?

Ok so I too was in the Z world. I have had two 240's. Putting the Webers on
it made it run like a V8. Then I moved into two 280's. The fuel injection
was nice but took all the sole out of the car, like it does a lot of the
times. In 82 I traded my 280, power blue with 3,600 miles on it for my white
basket cast 72 Pantera. Tells you how bad I wanted a Pantera!

I have also always had British sports cars, mostly MG's. Still have my 71
from High School! I always say they have the best "oh shit" quotient of
cars. Taking a turn in a MG at 35 you will hear yourself say "OH SHIT". In
most other cars you will be going a lot faster and spending lots more money
for the same fun.

Today I got an Oh Shit too..got the price of a new roof on the office..

I owned a 71 or 72. 240! It was orange, black louverd rear, clear headlamp
covers, front and rear spoilers. The engine was rebuilt and I had full
synthetic oil that never got dirty. Got stolen! Bill 1362

I just got back from a drive in my TR6.

There's something about those old British roadsters.

I had my Mach 1 when I started college, parked it and got a Spitfire IV 1500
with a GT-6 bonnet, a Marcos, a Karman Ghia, 2 TR-6's and and a Volvo 145
Stationwagon that was used as a camper for SCCA track weekends ( corner
worker ).
Started my professional career with the Pimento Red 73 TR-6 and bought the
Audi after 6 months on the job.

I kept the TR-6 for more SCCA Solo II events for a few years. Loved that
car.
It saved my life once, story for another day.

I was one of very few college students who maintained a three car fleet,
three jobs at the same time helped.

I bought my 280Z new in 1978 for $8500 (included dealer installed AC). I
bought it because one of my friends got a 260Z while I was still in school
and I thought it was cool. Another friend bought a TR6 new the year before
and that's what I decided I wanted to buy when I graduated but by the time I
finished school the TR6 was gone and it was the first year for the TR7.
Went and looked at a new TR7 but was not impressed so I bought the Z.

They were about $3200 going up to over $5000 for the 74 260Z. Plus you had
to wait 6 to 12 months for delivery. Rust in the pressed frame rails was a
real problem. Ran circles around a TR6.

Obviously a tweeked engine and aftermarket exhaust. Sounds sweet.

The first new car I ever bought, right after I got out of college, was a
1978 280Z. By then they had gotten heavy, went to fuel injection and had
the big bumpers but it was still a very sweet ride. Loved that car. I
don't see many first gen Z cars anymore (at least here in Iowa) but
everytime I do I have to take a closer look and go back into the time
machine of my youth.

I can't get over the sound that the car makes in this video:

3QrvJpTzxHu7Arw78-AgNoEu0dgL0,

It's not a stock exhaust system or a stock engine (why does that sound
familiar on the DeTomaso forum?) but I can't get over how amazing this car
sounds.

I never paid all that much attention to 240z's, as they were a little before
my time, but I found the video interesting
