[DeTomaso] Vacuum leaks? A question.

While searching for a vacuum leak a couple of weeks ago, using the usual 
spraying of carb cleaner around the intake & carb.  The result was the finding 
of an area on the left of the intake that could be the culprit.

Question:  While spraying carb cleaner in this area the engine RPM's *decreased" 
rather than increasing as expected.  What's the significance of this phenomenon?
