Depends on the classic.
Panteras are more exotic and few people drove them daily, so I don't the California / southwest history means as much.
However, when I was looking for a TR6 I saw some online in the Midwest that were in need of a new frame because it was fatally rusted thru.

A lot of "California Panteras" were parked in beach cities. The moist salt air
rusts everything it can get to.

Subject: [DeTomaso] "California Car" - Valid Term?
Discussion point..."California Car" used to mean, dry, rust free, but maybe sun
baked?
Does anyone even use this term anymore to describe vintage classics?
Wasn't this used back in the day when people drove their exotics/classics as
regular transportation and the lack of moisture in California would imply a more
favorable condition?
Nowadays, a classic car is a classic car whether from Buffalo, NY or San Diego.
I haven't seen a vintage Detomaso, Lamborghini or Ferrari being driven in the
rain in a decade.
Nowadays, these classics are only out in the best of conditions...so it doesn't
matter where it lives but what condition that particular car is in at any given
time.
As more classics are coveted and less are stored on carports and in backyards,
this term is becoming a thing of the past.
At least in the Collector Car world...
