Chuck,

I would love to see photos of the original 71 air cleaner and proper orientation if you have them.  Also, the proper valve covers if youve got that as well.  My car is a a 71 non push button.

cheers, david

Subject: [DeTomaso] FW: Stock air cleaner wanted

Hi Chuck

There are at least four different air cleaner bases used in Panteras,
depending on the series of production.
They are all based on Mustang items, but modified for the Pantera.
You could make a Mustang air cleaner work with a little modification.

The orientation of the snorkel was changed several times. It pointed in
different directions.
the first series was on the push button cars. I think that one continued to
the end of the use of the 351-4V with closed chamber heads in 1971.
The second type had a chrome lid and was used on the 351CJ engines in early
1972. Later production L type cars had a third type with the snorkel
pointing to the passenger side front with a duct attached to take air from
the from an area near the ground. There were different types used on
post-Ford ear cars, but I have no knowledge of them.

The information has been recorded before. It's in the archives, but I can't
seem to find a way to search for it.

If you'd like more info or photos, let me know.

Kindest regards

Barry

Dear Forum,

Well, yesterday it was a mundane seat belt receptacle.
Today, a good friend needs a stock air cleaner for a project.  See below.

" ..can you put the word out on the forum and see if someone has an
'unmodified / unmolested part for sale?  Just the lower part is necessary
(although I would take all). Don't need the lid or the snorkel or the
auxiliary fresh air valve - just the main housing. "

This does not have to be in concours condition.  As long as it
is original and unmodified, the filth, surface rust or flaking paint are of
no matter.   It doesn't even need to be the whole shebang, just the main
housing, but he would take the whole thing.

Please contact me if you have an unwanted, cosmetically
challenged stock 351C Pantera air cleaner laying about or if you have one
for sale.

                                  Warmest regards,  Chuck Engles
