[DeTomaso] Worst restoration project item (Re: shifter u joints)

Worst thing is that small drip of liquid on the floor, wiping the underside
of the fuel tank, looking for 30 seconds and then the next drop starts to
materialize. That means engine out...

There is one worse, but it's related: rear wheel house subframe rust repair.
That is the worst. Difficult to access, difficult to reconstruct, has to be
done *right*. And you really need to remove all the undercoating first.
Yuck!

of these cars before they were painted at the factory.

cost close to $40 each and can be purchased through summit or jegs or the
vendors, all for about the same price. i used them on my steering and
shifter linkages, and they work well, but since I sourced mine on my own
with no one's help. I did not realize you have to drill the threaded shaft
at each connection, so over time EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM HAS LOOSENED. I
have retightened them all, because for most of them, drilling the shaft once
installed for the set screw is mostly not possible. So far, the second
tightening is working, but I am fearful. when the shift linkage u joint
slips, i can not engage third gear all the way but just get a wonderful
grinding of the synchros.

removing headliner? rust repair? rear wheel bearing?
