I agree. IF Panteras ever come to be appreciated for what great cars they are by the "collector" crowd, anything you do to it that changes its appearance from stock will make it worth LESS.

Financially you're better off looking for a real GT5S.

Making the first cut is the hardest, I cut my 74 for a Group 4 conversion, just
measure and remeasure, plus have wheels on the car so everything sits correctly
when aligning new panels.

Yes your car may be a better candidate, but that doesn't mean it is going to be
that much less expensive I'd estimate $15k for the panel work and assuming you
are repainting anyway and not figuring the cost of the paint job in with the
conversion. Personally I wouldn't 't buy a conversion unless it was fully
executed as GT5S i.e. full later interior and original Campi wheels and they'll
set you back around another $15K. Then you've got a great deal of the way to the
cost of a GT5S in it and still have a '71 conversion.

GT5-S, would the expense raise the value of the car by a similar amount? I have
a few rough estimates from some vendors.

great candidate and not as expensive to do as compared to others. My car is a
'71, in primer, has original campy wheels and no tires, rebuilt suspension, most
parts, etc. Wheels can be purchased for whatever I do, so no extra cost there.
I have a few significant front end bodywork issues, but not rust-related. Most
of the issues are from previous repair attempts. The car is rust-free as far as
I can tell. The conversion would remedy the current issues that I will have to
fix anyway. However, the rear quarters are in perfect shape so it would involve
cutting some good sheet metal. A friend of mine who converted his car to a
flared car said he thought about it for 5 seconds and and then got out the saw.
Another friend is converting his '72 to a GTS said he chose his car given that
he couldn't stomach cutting up a car with a good body.
