This.  While it may no longer be a piece of cake to get DMV to give up name
and address to someone off the street, I suspect crooks have ways to get
your name and address from a license plate anyway.  I'm not worried about
the car; my home and family are my big concern.

Garth is right. The primary concern of having you license plate number made
public is that it's not that hard for someone to find out your name and
address. No big deal in terms of protecting the car but more of an overall
personal security issue. Probably not a big deal for most of us but for
women or public figures that may be more concerned about that it could be.
