[DeTomaso] L model Engine Side Covers

Dear Mike,

This may be the only known bit of Pantera esoteric that you don't
know. It is one of the few that I know. Decades ago I bought an engine
cover for a project with my 1974 Pantera L. I naively thought that all
Pantera engine covers were the same. Sigh. Nope. I had bought a Pre L
cover, which did *not* fit on my Pantera L. I believe that Pre L and
Pantera L engine covers are not interchangeable.

                     Warmest regards, Chuck Engles

>>>I may have a lead for you. A friend is converting his Pre-L to outside
fuel fill, using the various bits and pieces from a wrecked L-model. He
is planning on using the L-model engine cover system, but I can't remember
if that will work or not, on a Pre-L car?

I have a profound understanding of how the Pre-L side covers are fitted,
because that's what I have. The covers have a lip on the front which
engages
a V-shaped groove in the body, and then they are secured with two small
screws at the rear. But for the life of me, I can't remember how the
L-model
covers are fitted? They have screws at the rear I seem to recall, but what

holds them in place in the front?

BTW, you could always just expand the hole in your Pre-L cover for the fuel
hose to pass through? No?

Mike
