I think you are refering to the Montage.  It was VW powered with a 
Ferrarri overdub for engine sound in "Hardcastle and McCormick".

I have seen the Mirage with a Pantera drive line.  It is much more 
impressive than a Chevy 350 with a Corvair transaxle.
