Getting back to car discussions, in a One Lap of America event some years
ago, a Pantera narrowly missed beating a BMW M-1 for class honors. The
trailered M-1 blew its engine during one phase but by throwing tons of money and
effort at it, managed to have the engine replaced in time for the next event
in the series. The Pantera (from TX) was driven to & from the whole event
without any problems. FWIW- J Deryke
Not exactly. If you are referring to 1995, I drove the one lap in my then Pantera (now owned by Scott Black) with co driver Paul McCarty (more his idea than mine). Pantera Performance Center was kind enough to let me borrow spares that I could return if not needed. The M1 was flawless. I threw a water pump belt at Road America, and while I had a spare, I did not have the spare A/C belt that also was thrown. We had no other issues. The M1 was driven by 2 talented BMW club DE instructors who just plain drove better than I did most places. It would be interesting to see how I might fare today with more driving experience and knowing more tracks, but driving thousands of miles for 2 laps per track has lost its luster. Paul and I finished second in the Vintage Imported class.
