Jan Norby: Prototype Maserati Bora (designed by Giugiaro) shown at the
Geneva Auto show in March of 1971- exactly a year after the first Pantera
prototype was shown in New York on March 1970. Bora roduction began in late '71-
only 11 Boras built that year (per Rob Dela Rive Box). The basic sillhouette
is similar to a Pantera but the Bora is heavier, has a longer wheelbase, is
an inch taller, uses a 4.7-L, 4.9-L or 5-liter DOHC engine and 7-1/2" wide
Campagnolo wheels on both ends- with chrome hub-caps! 4 double-barrel
Webers gave 11 mpg during road tests. Two race-prepared Boras built using what
looks like Pantera Gr-4 10-window Campys (wider ones in back) with flaired
fenders. But the entire production run of Boras '71-78 was only 495 cars, and
the FIA required 500 per year to qualify as 'production'.
FWIW- J Deryke (who nearly bought one, to go with our Pantera. Luckily, I
regained my sanity before I found one I could afford)
