[DeTomaso] Overheating

Check your timing, especially the harmonic balancer orientation. The outer 
ring often moves relative to the hub, and if you then set ignition timing to 
that (shifted) mark, your ignition will be severely retarded... which 
overheats. Too much advance also overheats. A street 351-C only needs around 34 
degrees ignition advance TOTAL from true Top Dead Center, including static, 
centrifugal and vacuum advances. All these are easily adjusted.
I suspect you are also vapor-locking the carb because things are running 
hot. A carb isolator plate made of non-heat-conducting material (including 
wood) should help. Good luck- J Deryke
