[DeTomaso] What a tire blow-out at 186 MPH can do

I don't know the course workers can actually see each other. They might
with binoculars, but I do believe all parts of the course are covered
with some overlap even if they can't see each other. In addition, there
is typically at least one chase plane and sometimes two, that are
constantly viewing the course.

All course workers are in constant contact via a radio network. Each
driver is given a radio to make contact with course workers if
necessary. They could if they wished, listen to traffic but most if not
all, don't; they instead concentrate on the course, watch for warning
flags and watch out for dust plumes like this kind of incident would
have created.

If a driver does not respond after an incident like this by waving a
large white paper (the backing from the numbers), or making radio
contact, they will RED FLAG the race and put emergency services on
course. If I recall correctly, there are three emergency services
stations on course, so that help is theoretically less than 15 minutes
away. Like most racing events, do not stop for an accident, look for
flags and keep rolling.

As long as the person if fine (by signaling the course workers), the
race goes on.

At the point of blowout the driver had a split second choice choice to put it into the hillside or over the edge, he got it to the hillside but still ended up flipping it.
