[DeTomaso] DeTomaso Digest, Vol 109, Issue 8

I used a couple blocks of wood, ok a 2x4 on each side if the grills then place a 2x2 across the 2x4 a couple of inches on either side of the grill then looped some heavy nylon twine around a couple of the grills and around the 2x2. I then uses a dowel for each loop and slowly trusted the twine with the dowels  until the grill popes out in damaged.    

I threw the old plastic holders away and just used some small rubber grommets in place of the plastic clips to affix the grill.

Well it worked for me
